The Painter

She can paint a pretty picture

But never of herself

Doesn’t even smile

Thinks it’s bad for her health

Sees the girls and boys

Walking hand in hand

Given up on that dream

No more fantasy land

They pay for her paintings

But they pay her no mind

That little glimpse at happiness

Will she never find

People come from miles away

To buy her art

Ranbows, sunshine, waterfalls

In her life it plays no part

The shop floor empties

She watches as they leave

Go back to their lives

She wonders how it would be

Back to reality

Time to close

Another day finished

For the girl no one knows
