This shot was taken on Maui, Hawaii a couple of years ago with Canon PowerShot S5IS.
The Java Sparrow, Padda oryzivora is a native of Indonesia and was introduced to the Hawaiian islands in 1867 probably as a stray bird traveling on ships between the islands. Male and female look alike. I had only seen these beautiful little birds in cages previously to the wild ones in Hawaii. Much nicer to see them in nature:-)
