your style is so unique…you’ve got elegant odd elegance going on all once…and the colours and detail – remind me of Mucha – lovely work!

Spotted in the ‘Art appreciation’ group.

I’ve commented on a number of your submissions, and each time I think I’ve used the adjective ‘distinctive’. You now have a style of your own – and a very impressive style – but I find myself asking ‘what next?’. Are you going to continue doing what are essentially portraits or are you going to start setting your work in various contexts? Many great artists had highly distinctive styles, as diverse as Bacon or Lowry or numerous others. However they never made their work ‘about’ the style, the style was used to take their work to the next level. You need to have people saying ‘here’s a new one from Braidy’ and not ‘it’s just another Braidy’.

thank you mufa, i do understand where your comming from with this… though these watercolours are still new to me, i have only recently started working with them. There is a very large portion of work prior to these that i have not yet posted here… work with oils.
I must admit that i still have no idea where i am going with any of it, or for that fact where i will end up, i do still feel like i am missing something very much so… this is a feeling that grows more and more with each piece i do.
right now i dont know how else to push my work to the next level other than paint and paint until i work it out…
thankyou again mufa, if you have any more advice it would be great to hear it

Beautiful image. Love the washed red background and especially love the way you’ve drawn the leaf shapes around the bottom of the eye and continuing out into the image. Great work.

on and on you go… i see so much development as you explore the possibilities of new mediums..perhaps you have found something with water color….how big can you get? Research paper suppliers, rolls can get pretty big and you can pull out as much as you like, brushes too come in all sorts of shapes and sizes….after i learnt the basics of oil painting i found that a hardware shop was just as rich in possibilities as an ‘art supplies’ shop…think about girl.
    ps
these really make me think of stained glass…hmmmm

I like this one the most…it sounds we’re also kinda in the same boat per say, in that we are “working it out” through doing. Yes, a challenging place to be…if this is a start for you, how wonderful it will be to see where it carries you off to! Beautiful colors and soul!
