Braidy Hughes was born in Mackay – Queensland in 1982. She commenced studying a Bach of Creative Arts in 2000 – however after deciding that the course was not for her she ceased her studies after 3 months.
Braidy considers herself a self taught artist and she has been producing a steady and growing body of work after picking her brushes back up in 2005.
Braidy’s paintings have since sold to numerous collectors throughout Australia and America – her work has shown in various galleries across the South Queensland area and over the New South Wales boarder and has been selected for publications such as Curvy, Australian Art Collector, Avant Card and ABC Arts.
“As an artist I tend to work best when I approach my work with as much childlike freedom as possible, and while I’m in the mind set of what could almost be described as methodical meditation… often lead by music, mischief & wine.
The women that I paint are, to me, fragments of contemplation, misadventure and heartbroken thought.
They spill onto the canvas when I am in my most quietly emotive state… when my mind is still but my heart screams out..
In my most recent, and ongoing series, these women have become intertwined prominently with goldfish.
These fish come in like a secondary character and often they take on a story to tell of their own."
