Thank you Marion! Perlin noise (named for Ken Perlin who developed it) is a technique used to make the textures of computer-generated images look more realistic. On certain scales it simulates the controlled randomness of natural textures. In this fractal, though, I was looking at it closely, and not aiming for realism!
