Stroking a Lion

Stroking a Lion

How many pictures can you take?? This is just to show you that all my lion shots were truly a close encounter. This is the male cub who just loved getting stroked. The stick is in my left hand because if he rose up you had to show you were the ‘master’ by tapping the stick at the side of his head! yeah – right!! Anyway the man with the dart gun was close by. I love cats and this was one time I could honestly say it was the most terrific experience and one I’d always wanted to have. I spent about 3 hours with both cubs.

Incredible! I once got to pet a tiger and nearly wet myself when she moved her head. Three hours with them is a gift! A treasured moment! Great shot!

  • Braedene replied

Yes I do Rod – I sometimes feel compelled to write a story on my travels from backpacking days but instead sometimes keep a diary of names etc to remind me!! Photos are the best. Thank you so much. Liz

Liz, he’s not a cub, he’s nearly fully grown – a cub to me is some cute little fluffy thing you can pick up – that must have been such an amazing experience though …

  • Braedene replied

I laughed at your comment too Felicity – I know, I was expecting a fluffy thing too!! They called them cubs as they were only 15 months and were not fully grown!! Thank you.

Wow! What a truly unique experience but you’re a brave lady Liz, one swipe with a hefty paw and you would have been in shreds – ugh!

  • Braedene replied

Yes, I agree with that – this one did rise up and there’s a shot of me talking to it – ‘Good boy,’ several times, just in case he wanted to cuddle me!! Had to tap the ground with the stick then but he looked so innocent. Thank you.

Wow. What an experience. My little kitty will be just purring and then all of a sudden, for some reason only known to her, she’ll start attacking my arm. I assume lions can be the same way. The only thing is I guess you’d only experience it once. LOL. I’d still be in there next to you with the stick though and go for it.

  • Braedene replied

Thank you Steve – you obviously understand the way of cats – mine used to do that too- I still miss my three but when I stop travelling so much I’ll get a few more. They are the most amazing animals, domesticated and wild!! But you made me laugh – yes you would only experience it once !!!
