Jaguar

Having found paw prints of a jaguar on the trail on the third day – we came across this jaguar high up in the trees, some time later. Taken with some telephoto we were glad to see he was resting!! We moved silently as we could down the trail to the the next ravine .

nice capture, up in the trees there.. At first I thought it was a panda lol… :)

We all totally stopped riding, but it would not move its head – it was far away as we were riding in an open section of the jungle – didn’t even know if it would come out on the photo- so glad we caught a glimmer of one.

How lucky were you to, not only see, but also to take a photo of an elusive jaguar? Well done!

  • Braedene replied

Thanks jacqui but it was pretty far away – we wouldn’t have noticed it had our guide not pointed out the paw prints on the muddy trail about 10 mins before he pointed to the trees – as I said to Steve I didn’t even know it would come out, but so glad. A lot of my photos were spoiled with the humidity as it clouded my lens and I didn’t know until I got back to the lodge. Liz

    Wow, great capture!

Thank yoy Nathan – I think luck was with us that day as we also saw 2 blue morpho butterflies, a toucan and 3 parrots – they were too high up and well camouflaged though. Liz

Whoa!! I bet you had eyes in the back of your head for the next few hours!! We don’t get to see too many shots of jaguars, that’s for sure. Thanks for getting one!

  • Braedene replied

Thank you Al – of animals which might turn on you, in the wild I have been close to bears (many times), wolves (several times) , lions , a cheetah , an injured elephant (which turned on us), crocodiles ( snap!), buffalo, wild boar, too close to a charging water buffalo, too close to a ready to charge rhino, so this jaguar was a little way away and we were moving through the jungle on horse back. One of the party was nervous though- she did keep looking back – possiblty because she was at the back of all the riders!! I didn’t realise my list was so long till I started to think about it. Would love to see a tiger in the wild – only followed its footprints on elephant back when I was in Nepal.

WOW! How cool is this! I bet it was a little scary, but so wonderful too!

  • Braedene replied

Thank you so much Lisa – I wrote a lot to Al – the last rider was nervous and kept looking back on the trail but it looks quite relaxed on the tree, not that I saw that till I cropped the photo and brought it closer!!
