We recently went to visit my parents in Texas. They live just outside of the historic town of Kilgore, mostly know for its part in the Texas Oil Boom of the 1930’s. The trains are frequent guests running through the town, and the oil derricks are a monument to that era of prosperity that flooded the area of East Texas. You can still see the Christmas lights up on top that decorate the iconic symbols. I love taking night shots of the town.

Thank you so much. This is one of the best shots I have taken in the town at night. I was lucky that they hadn’t taken down the Christmas lights before we arrived.
Well thank you Ursula. That means a great deal to me. The trains are quite frequent, and they are more often than not freight trains. It’s those oil derricks that I love.

A wonderful slice of eccentric (perhaps) Americana, Shawn! The ghost train & the derricks with their festive accoutrements… where else? Great work.
I agree. It’s like something from a nostalgic Norman Rockwell painting. It’s quite impressive standing up next to them. Thank you my wonderful friend.
