On the last day of our family holiday in Northumberland, I decided to wake early and capture one last sunrise before returning home. As I woke at 4am, I could see a thick band of clouds covering the sky and contemplated going back to sleep, but chose to press on and hope for the best. Even as I arrived at the small coastal village of Alnmouth, I wasn’t convinced that I would see any colour, but at about 5am, the clouds broke and the celestial colours came through, and filled the sky with a lovely hue of pink and purple. My devotion had been rewarded. Along the beach some way back there are a number of boats, some of which lie in the middle of the green marshy fields where they slowly expire in the elements. Some local people are concerned as many children play on the decaying boats and fear for their safety. They do however make for a beautiful subject on a beautiful spring morning. The village of Alnmouth has a very rich history and is a beautiful picturesque village in Northumberland.
