Whilst on Lindisfarne Island (better known as Holy Isalnd) in Northumberland, England, I made opportunity to walk down to the dock area there and the small beach they have there. All along the shore line was a collection of small fishing and row boats, many of which had seen better days. This boat, the Magpie as I understand it to be known as, was sitting there among the small vessels, resting upon the grass, reminiscing of past journeys and adventures, and sharing his wisdom with the other boats, as one might do who’s days are numbered. I love old boats like this. They exude such personality. Please view this image large to enjoy all its character and texture.

    Excellent capture Bradley.

  • Thank you Don. I have always wanted to capture this boat on the shores of Lindisfarne, ever since I saw Joe Cornish’s photo of it. Now it seems that it won’t be here much longer.. glad i took it when I did, but I wish I’d of had a better sky.

    Fantastic composition!!

  • Thank you greatly Colin. It means a lot to me. I just wish I had a better sky but I had to take what I could as this was the only day we were gong to be here…. one of the difficulties when taking photos whilst on a family holiday.

    Lovely shot Shawn.

  • Thank you dear friend. It is such a magical place to visit. My only wish would have been for a bit of blue sky instead of the grey and rainy day it turned out to be. Looking forward to a nice day in the Lakes sometime soon I hope.

Great composition, & nice of you to give this boat another chance. It almost seems to have a smile on its face..er, bow.

  • LOL! Thank you my wonderful friend. Such a lovely observation and a beautiful compliment. I do love old fishing boats, with such beautiful texture.

I love your sense of composition here. Nice compression between the castle, the boat in the water and this old gorgeous one in the foreground!

  • That so kind of you to say. Thank you Vikram for that lovely compliment. I do have another one similar to this as you know, but I may save that fro sometime later. I love the way this balances as well.

Ominous! :-) Like Vik, I love the composition with the contrast between the old boat and the new one, the colour foreground with the dreary distance. It works well!

  • Thank you my friend. I just wish we had seen a better sky though. They are a bit dark for my liking even with HDR. I do like the composition though. I appreciate your kind and encouraging words. Are you ready for Christmas yet?

    What a great texture!

  • The boat had so much character. Such a lovely place to visit as well. I really would like to go back on a better day though. This was the best I could do with the sky that day. Thank you greatly. I really appreciate it.
