Whilst on my venture out into the snow covered landscape of Nottinghamshire, along the A616 towards the villages of Kneesall and Ollerton, I stopped in a lay by just outside the village of Caunton. I was trekking along the side of the road to get a good angle of a snow covered field. After taking the shot, I began making my way back to the car when I noticed for the first time a stream that was running along side the main road. Because it is covered by brush and trees, I had not realised it was there. So I decided to work my way through the thick brush and thorny tentacles of the undergrowth, eventually coming to the waterway’s edge. It is not a major tributary or a proper river, so there is no name for it, though it does seem to run the length of two large fields, and then makes it’s way under the main road, continuing to flow in a south easterly direction. I was very struck by the contrast of the white snow that covered all the plants that line the stream, and of the green ivy growing up the side of the tree. I think I may return some time in spring to see what colour there is. Whilst taking this photo, I was precariously perched against a tree behind, hoping only not to fall into the bitterly cold water.

Primarily a landscape photographer, my enjoyment of taking photos has developed from a young age. Originally from Texas, I now live in England and am surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery. I enjoy outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking, and camping. I am blessed with a wonderful wife and three terrific children. I am a strong Christian and I believe that my love of photography and any talent I posses in capturing images comes from God.

Love how that streak of green just pops out from this frozen scape!

  • Thank you my friend. I was really surprised to see the ivy so full over the tree. It really is a stark contrast isn’t it.

Love the sharp green ivy on the tree in contrast to the snow really lovely

  • Thank you dearly Karen. That is so wonderful of you. It isn’t the finest of my photos, but it is certainly one that no one else has. It was hard enough to get down there. I might just return in the spring to see what it looks like then.

A beautiful sight, very striking, with the green ivy through the snow. Not something that we are used to see over here in the winter; everything is so stark.

  • Thank you dearly my friend. I have to say that I have never really noticed ivy like this at this time of the year. You are wonderfully encouraging.

It’s the contrast between the snow and the ivy-covered tree that makes this picture fascinating. Great composition!

Beautiful shot Shawn, love the green leaves on the left of the shot, really breaks it up..

  • Thank you my friend. I have never seen such a contrast as that green and the white snow. I wasn’t sure what I was going to find when I made my way down there. I appreciate the compliment.
