This is straight from the camera. It stands AS IS

The other night I was going through my archive of shots and I came across a number of shots that I want to upload (if I ever get around to it) but I found one here that I really must share. This is a lovely rural scene after a generous covering of snow. The roads were a bit slippery getting down the country lane to the church where I took this and a few other shots. This little lane lies to the side and behind the church in the village of Upton, Nottinghamshire, in England (not far from the market town of Southwell). What struck me was the contrasts of the wood and the gravestones just over the fence, and the white snow. The day had mostly been overcast with more snow showers on their way, but at the moment and time of this shot, the late afternoon sun was peeking through the clouds and casting this beautiful pinkish haze in the sky and on the fence, bringing to life the lovely rural colours. Perhaps I was a bit inspired by the scene to resemble one of my favourite Christmas songs, “Walking in a winter wonderland”. I can just imagine a sleigh and a horse travelling down this path!

    Beautiful exposure, very well done.

  • Thank you so much Mike. It was a freezing cold late afternoon / early evening. My hands were going numb by this time. LOL! I appreciate the kind compliment.

lovely shot, shawn. great perspective. (goes to show u how little i know: i didn’t think it snowed much in the uk!)

  • Thank you greatly my friend. Oh yes it snows…. it comes down brilliantly. I was unable to get out to where the snow fell hardest this year to shoot, but some friends of mine who live in the area have. You should check out their shots this year… Shaun Whiteman and Jason Connolly. They have captured some amazing shots of snow and it was waist or even chest high snow. Have a wonderful New Year.
