This beautiful cottage is known locally as the Lovedays Garden Cottage, connected to the Royal Oak hotel and pub, in more ways than one. It was told me that this cottage front and garden was put onto the side of the Royal Oak pub by the Lovedays, who owned the Royal Oak at the time. They were a very wealthy business family, owning clothing mills and numerous properties around the area. They had the cottage front put on to give the appearance of a home, but inside was all the pub. It wasn’t until much later that it was sectioned off to make it a proper cottage for one of the Loveday family member. I am still in the midst of trying to find out more about this lovely cottage as there isn’t too much known.

Primarily a landscape photographer, my enjoyment of taking photos has developed from a young age. Originally from Texas, I now live in England and am surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery. I enjoy outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking, and camping. I am blessed with a wonderful wife and three terrific children. I am a strong Christian and I believe that my love of photography and any talent I posses in capturing images comes from God.

So if I knock – will Ms Havisham open the door?
Looks like Pip’s view to Satis House as I’d imagine him walking in!!
    LOVE that blue focal point!!

  • I think you have hit it spot on. That is exactly what I feel like just standing there taking the photo. When I went to knock on the door to get more info about the place, I totally expected a period person to open the door. LOL! I really appreciate the compliment my dear friend.

I love gardens…this is especially good..

  • It is a wonderful cottage. It is even more beautiful during the spring time, but unfortunately I don’t have any photos. There is something magical about victorian gardens. Thank you so very much for the compliment.

I love the way you delve into the history of these places. It’s always a fascinating read. I love the way the door frame “leads” you to the inner door. Very clever :-)

  • I have been called many things in my life, but clever….? Thank you my wonderful friend. You know I am a historian at heart and love exploring the history of what I shoot. I appreciate your compliment.
