La Corbière can be found at the extreme south-western point of Jersey, in St. Brelade. It is probably the most photographed landmark of the channel island, and is known for its lovely panoramic views and the extreme tidal activity. Victorian engineer Sir John Coode is responsible for the design by which the lighthouse is built. It was the first lighthouse in the British Isles to be built of reinforced concrete and was lit for the first time on the 24th of April, 1874. The beam of light has a reach of 18 nautical miles. which is a brilliant distance. The lighthouse finally became automated in 1976 and was no longer manned.
