"Village Life" by Bradley Shawn Rabon

This photo is ‘As Is’ – straight from the camera.

After visiting good friends of mine, John and Francis Clifford who are local historians, living in the village of Eyam in the Derbyshire Peak District, my friend Ted and I started making our way to the church for morning service and as we passed by some old village cottages on the way to the main road, I looked back at this lovely scene and thought how much it looked like a Thomas Kinkade painting and set out to capture the character of the cottage and, in essence, the whole of the village life as this is indicative of the life in Eyam, simple, rural, and close. There is a history here that all members of the community share and celebrate. I hope that in looking at this image you can get a feeling of what life in this lovely village is like. What I love about this image is the lovely colour and textures of the plants and the dry stone walls. There seems to be a beautiful marriage of man and nature working together which is what rural life is all about I think. Please view this image larger and just look at it and please share in the comments what feelings and images you get from looking at it. Thanks.

Primarily a landscape photographer, my enjoyment of taking photos has developed from a young age. Originally from Texas, I now live in England and am surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery. I enjoy outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking, and camping. I am blessed with a wonderful wife and three terrific children. I am a strong Christian and I believe that my love of photography and any talent I posses in capturing images comes from God.

Me too!!!!!! Anything like this makes my heart miss a beat. The Midsommer Murders series did that for me too!!! There really isn’t anything totally old and rustic here in OZ

  • You have some beautiful scenery in Australia. I would love to come there to photograph. Thank you for the lovely compliment. This village and these homes are close to my heart.

yes my Parents lived in Derbyshire and I think the Eyam story is really wonderful

  • I agree. As a youth worker there, I helped to tell the story to the school groups that came to visit. Please check out my other photo of the church Let us meet together. Have a wonderful day and do let me know if you come for a visit sometime.

I’m waiting for the day when you decide to do a book on old English villages. Filled with gorgeous pics like this!!

  • I would love to do that but I need first to take lots of good shots. LOL! I do like this one though. I also need a publisher. It is a great idea, but with so many better photographers around, do you think that my book would make an impact? You are a great encouragement my friend,

I did view it larger. It is a beautiful picture of England. I love the details closer up. The curtains in the window to the far left up stairs caught my eye., which you might not notice otherwise. Looks very homey and lovely.
  • Thank you my dear mother. LOL! I am glad you looked at it larger. What did you image about the place? It comes right out of a story book for me. I never would have noticed the curtains. Good eye!!!!!

  • Thank you my dear friend. I do like these rural homes and images as well. It feels calming and relaxing to be in the countryside and the small villages that dot our rural landscape of Derbyshire and the midlands.
