The WSWF (World Squirrel Wrestling Federation) hosted the widely anticipated “Bird Feeder Brawl” yesterday. It was a Steel (and wood) Cage match between two former "chomp"ions. Cameras shouldn’t have been allowed into the event because the inclement weather and dismal lighting made high speed photography nearly impossible. The match was over faster than a flash could be forced. The Herminator (just out of prison for stealing peanuts last year) was declared the winner in less than a second after he tossed “Bucky” onto his back against one of the steel chain corner posts. Not really a need to hope for a rematch, because anyone that knows red squirrels realizes that it is nearly impossible to prevent them from eating all the bird food. “Squirrel proof feeders” are just a myth perpetuated by squirrels.
Only feelings were hurt during the taking of this photograph..I think? I’d like to make two points:
1) This action is unbelievably fast…far too fast for the human eye to see. One second after this photo was taken, these two squirrels could be out of the feeder and many meters away.
2) If you have ever seen this type of interaction, for heaven’s sake, put some food out for the animals! They are starving! LOL
I thought the feet up in the air and the pinned back ears made this photo just too priceless not to share.
Don’t enlarge this photo..it just gets worse!! LOL

LOL! Marvellous capture and great blow by blow commentary, Brian! Love it!
Thanks for the fave, Mike. I have many…too many…red squirrel visitors this year. The poor chipmunks don’t have a chance. Tensions are running high. Seems like even the animals are fed up with this weather!!

LMAO…………..that just gave me the biggest belly laugh with your commentary and capture. awesome stuff ;)
I can’t even remember the last time I ate a jellybean? Makes me wonder why I ever ate them at all? I must have been a sugar junkie in my youth!!! Those were the days…when “fiber” was in our clothes, not our bowls and bowels! LOL Happy Easter, Clever.

Aye. Well, we get a break today and tomorrow, then it’s rain for the rest of the week. There’s a surprise! I can see why things may be a little tense…..
Just saw the sun…but it was gone before I could get my camera. I see all these photos here on RB with sun in them. How do they do that? What is the secret? Mike, as bad as the weather is in Cornwall, it is 10X worse here. I can’t tell you how many times a friend from Massena has told me that it was sunny and warm there and yet here, miserable. I still have some snow on the ground! Where’s that freakin squirrel..I’ll show him!!! LOL

It’s not too often we get a clear view of the Addies from this side. They definitely seem to have their own weather, don’t they? Oh, well. I’ll be off to enjoy the sun and warm today, methinks. Hope you at least get a little of it!
Priceless…your photos and stories are the highlight of my day!
Thank you, Laurie. Just in from fishing…not a bite….except for frostbite that is!!! Happy Easter.
