Young Russian Recruit by

I think I took this photo around the time of the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow a few years ago. I noticed several young college girls dressed in WWII type uniforms close to a military hospital and this one caught my attention.

About Jon Ayres

I’m an American who has been living in Moscow since 2003. I enjoy discovering and photographing the many new things unheard of in the west in Russia, Ukraine and Crimea. Moscow is my second home and I love it and the people as much as I do back home. Russia is a fantastic country that should not be missed by those who like to travel.

Thank you, that is one thing I admire about how Russians still respect their veterans. I read so often about how college kids in the UK get drunk and use the bathroom on soldier memorials or in the US how some universities give veterans a hard time, but it is different here, veterans, especially war vets are highly respected like it used to be in the US in my youth. I was taught to respect veterans and remember their sacrifices no matter what army they served in.
