Artist's Description

St. Vladimir Cathedral is located were ancient Chersonesus is and was supposed to be completed to the celebration of the 900th anniversary of St. Vladimir’s baptizing. The God’s Mother Christmas Temple, where St. Vladimir was baptized was supposed to be exactly on that site. This is where Christianity supposedly entered into Russia here on this site.

The construction of the temple was completed in 1892 and 34 year later, in 1926, the cathedral was closed. It was severely demolished during the Great Patriotic War, and it is said there were even attempts to explode the cathedral after the war. The believers started to hold prayers in half-demolished temple in 1992 and only 10 years later the restoration of the cathedral was completed.
