Sun rise over a semi frozen lake in Northumberland. The QEII Country Park was once part of the largest colliery spoil heap in Europe. It can be found about 17 mls North of Newcastle upon Tyne. The land that surrounded the mine, has been landscaped to include a lake and woodland walks. A 40 acre site teems with a wide variety of wildlife including Red Squirrel. Its a shame about the power lines that cross the the huge lake, however this does not seem to bother the constant flow of Birds. The Woodhorn museum is located at the Southern end of the park.
