Scarborough Startrails by

This was taken on Oliver;s Mount in Scarborough, UK.
After practising all week I finally managed to get a clear, calm night and found Polaris to get the circular trails.
The work is made up of 78, 60 second exposures with an aperture of f/3.5 and an ISO of 200. I used a torch and burst of flash for the last 10 exposures to light the obelisk.
The pictures we’re stacked using startrails.de software.
Taken with Canon 400D 18-55 lens @18mm.

oh wow that is fantastic Paul, awesome job! it’s as though the universe revolves around the north star, you really get a sense of the movement of the Earth!

  • Yeah man, It’s an ace effect! The hard thing is you don’t really know if it’s worked out till you get home and stack the images! My battery ran out half way through which is a pain! No matter how hard i tried to keep the camera still i still managed to nudge it which broke the curves! trial and error really! Can’t wait for the next clear spell. I have a feeling it will be a while now though!

haha yeah ive noticed that too, really long exposures seriously drains the battery lol aww yeah keeping it still is like the number 1 rule lol do you have a remote shutter release or do you just press the shutter on the camera, because I found this tip of setting the automatic shutter release timer so you dont have to touch the camera and risk shaking it.
