Bamburgh Castle (IR)
Shot taken on a recent trip to Northumberland.
Bamburgh Castle is situated on the North East Coast of England Between Holy Island and Seahouses.
It’s situated Just off a beautiful beach with a grassy bank with views out to sea of the Farne Islands.
The weather wasn’t playing ball again with very strong gusts of wind blowing the long grass about!
Instead I thought I would make use of the situation.
I applied my Infrared filter and used a 60 second shutter speed to blur out the grass and leave a dreamy effect.
Canon 400D with 18-55mm lens
Aperture f/14
Shutter Speed 60 sec
ISO 100
Hoya R72 Infrared filter

Hans Kawitzki
Fabulous IR image and pin sharp, noticed you have used the (kid ?) lens
18-55mm this lens has never worked for me due to a large hot spot
Paul McGuire replied
Thank you Hans. It works ok for me most of the time but that hotspot does appear maybe 50% of the time. I find I get a lot of concave horizons with long exposure on this lens though which is really frustrating! Thank you for your comment, Very much appreciated.

Without your explanation I was at a loss to “get” this, thinking the grass was water…...an exquisite view requiring incredible artistic and photographic savvy. Well done!
Paul McGuire replied
Thank you so much for your kind comment. I had a similar comment on another shot regarding the grass looking like water!

Excellent capture. I believe that B&W is the best medium for this photo. It really sets the mood and scene nicely.

Thanks very much Scott. I’m glad you think so. I’m not quite PS advanced enough to alter colours with IR work, so thats appreciated!

Thanks so much. I appreciate you checking my portfolio out – I’ll have a look into Stonehaven. As you may have noticed castles are one of my favorite subjects! My wife loves the history so I can take my photos and we both win! ;)
