Reflections on and of a Siege
by ArtPearl

When she first presentated her image, ArtPearl wrote:
‘’It explores the effects of reflection on perceived reality. There was only one person and one bush in the scene, the rest are reflections of those and reflections of reflections…So is she right to feel as though she is in a siege…Are the emotions of the person the same after reflections…’’
I was interested in working on the issue of the various reflections that occur around human emotions when they get involved in certain situations. And I wanted to approach this issue in a positive way, without casting aside the complexity of this matter. In short, I think that it is possible to overcome siege both from the internal and external point of view. And I wanted the final image to trasmit this feeling.
To achieve the final image I developed a creative process. Here are three stages of this process.

I think it’s pretty obvious that I took a different direction with respect to the visual treatment of the reflections.
Why? Well, on one hand, Pnina had achieved a truly impressive effect in the original work with regard of reflections, an achievement that is quite hard to overcome. And on the other hand, I wanted the reflections to have their own life as well as to show their different behaviors, without losing perspective that they’re mere reflections of the same attitude.

I was worried because I couldn’ t provide the element of a possible release from sieges.
And then I found that a single open door could make this point. This led me to arrange the elements differently, which was not an easy task, but I think it was worth it.
And here it is the final image.

Danilo the work is totally captivating. I’m reflecting on the reflections. On the one hand, the primary subject feels closed in; doors seem closed to her. But on the other hand, just beyond, an open door beckons; its guiding light illuminates a path for her. She just needs to “crawl out of her hole” and walk it. Your figure shown at different perspectives is a brilliant way to illustrate the reflections of reality and emotions. This is as outstanding from an aesthetic viewpoint, as it is from a conceptional one. Congratulations to you and Pnina!
