OK. Let me begin by saying that I love the work of Marsha Free, all her work is a tribute to life, to the legacy of humanity and nature. I am particularly drawn to her Stained Glass Painting Collection. I love the smoothness and precision of the lines and the masterful use of color.
And these are the formal aspects which I took as a basis for my translation. The lines and colors of Marsha’s stained glass works.
… In bloom by Marsha Free
From a conceptual standpoint, I went up to her “In Bloom” work in the sense of birth, in the sense of the advent of a new creation.
So the first thing that I created for this birth was the space, the location, a kind of delivery room.
And here came the first conflict for me. How should be the walls and lighting of this room?
I tried some variations. Finally, I decided that I would not paint the walls, and that it was better to illuminate the scene with the original Marsha’s work.
What you see here is the application of Marsha’s image/work to the lighting; those walls as well as the floor are not painted.
Translating … In Bloom
WIP No. 2
I think now it’s more clear what kind of birth I was referring to in my first WIP.
But still there are a few things I would like to modify.
On one hand, it seems inappropiate to me to have such high contrast tones for this kind of scene, both in color and in lighting. I’d like something softer _ suave.
Also the position of the camera gives the image a dramatic sense that is out of my intentions.
Yes, I’d still have to make some adjustments, but I understand that the general concept that I wanted to capture is here.
The next step would be to present the final image.
Translating … In Bloom
The Final Image
After several tests by changing the lighting as well as the framing of the camera, I decided to return to the initial parameters.
This time I added the columns of flowers not only to enhance the vision of the central figures but also to recreate the presence of nature, something that is very present in the works of Marsha.
I wholeheartedly thank Marsha for having allowed me to work on her piece. In performing this collaboration, I have been able not only to study her exquisite body of work but to appreciate even more her undeniable creative talent.
I think that “In Bloom Labours” would do a nice title for this new work.
