It was in the early 1930s that Bodie last had open Cafe and gasoline for sale. The last bit of boom kept a little life in the town, but the last great fire of 1932 ended that and by the start of World War 2 all the mines were closed for good.

Believe it or not, there is a place that still operates the old gravity gas pumps in the Sierra Nevada. It is Kings Canyon Lodge on SR 180 between Grant Grove and Cedar Grove. I would love to live there.

  • Thanks Chris, I’ve been there, but I missed the pumps.
