Childhood memories
night after night
curled up in my bed
forced to listen to you fight
your anger, violence and sorrow
crashed through my door
I cried
Until I cried no more
my sister shouts out
I stay silent in my bed
wishing for an end
sometimes wishing I were dead
I heard you say ‘he loved that swing’
you failed to surely know
that there was comfort
in the simple to and fro
dad’s home
another bedtime filled with dread
shouts, screams and pleas
Another morning nothing said
the pain you caused
I carry today
so tightly twisted
never went away
too deep to see
no way to cope
my children now
my only hope.

You’ve come to the right place to share these writings Bob. Writing is a great way to release ‘the twisted pain’ and be healed. The more healing that occurs, the better outcome for your children. And you know, despite the intensity of the pain as it’s released, we can and do survive it. Welcome to the Way Out. :-))
I get great support from my wife. Thanks for your kind words.
