I still hadn’t gotten a male goldfinch in breeding colors yet this summer, so I decided I better get cracking. There is nothing more beautiful than the bright yellow of a breeding male American Goldfinch. I had one goal and that was to bring out the bright yellow of these guys to the fullest without over exposing their feathers. I, at least, don’t find this any easy job. I think I accomplished my goal with this shot though, it was just one of those that after you take the shot and view it in your viewfinder, you give that fist pump and say “Yes! that’s what I wanted!” (LOL) :)
This was taken at Sapsucker Woods (Cornell Lab of Ornithology) in Ithaca NY.
The scientific name for this species is: Carduelis tristis.
