This is a Red-eyed Vireo. I caught this one in some mature forest, hence the darkness surrounding him.
I usually adhere to the rule of thirds but it just didn’t seem to work with this guy so I centered him. I think there are always exceptions to the rules when it comes to photography (much like the english language). :)
This was taken at Sapsucker Woods (Cornell Lab of Ornithology) in Ithaca NY.
The scientific name for this species is: Vireo olivaceus.
