During the month of April our lawn seems to be a migratory area of American Toads traveling to find their breeding grounds. Sometimes during the evenings when we are driving home (especially in the rain) we have to dodge toads once we turn on our dead end road. I decided I needed to get at least one shot at night so I went out at 9:30pm with my flash and my son had a flashlight. We caught this big one in our front yard and I got this shot. I was very pleased with the outcome with it being an evening shot. Also, very glad to have bought the external flash for my camera as I stated before, it works wonders!
This was taken in my front yard in Cortland NY.
The scientific name for this species is: Bufo americanus.
