I got this capture when I was about to finish my wildlife shoot for the day at my regular haunt (Sapsucker Woods). As I was leaving, I saw a mink run across the road into the marshy area. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get a mink so I pulled back into the parking lot and walked over to the marsh to try to find him. The first time I spotted him he dashed underwater before I could get a good shot but I saw the water ripples headed to the other side. I then ran across the bridge to the other side to try to see if he would surface there. At first I saw nothing but then he emerged right in front of me and just stood there giving me this pose, so I shot 10-12 shots off. Some people then came up to me and he dashed back underwater but I got my shot. Whew!
This was taken at Sapsucker Woods (Cornell Lab of Ornthology) in Ithaca NY.
The scientific name for this species is: Neovison vison.
Whew- I bet he was fast Robert- well done to capture this. I love the pretty colors and his curious expression.

Thank you Laura! I actually have been trying to get a very clear shot of a mink for about four years now. So, I was extremely happy to get this one and I think knowing this area helped a great deal in getting this shot. :)
