This is a Humbolt Penguin, their normal breeding grounds are found on the pacific coast in Northern Chile and Peru. Human disturbance and over fishing of one of their main dietary fish the Peruvian Anchovy (Engraulis ringens) has caused significant declines. This species is now listed as Endangered.
This paticular one was part of a captive population at Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse NY.
