I had shot this sunflower last night with not too bad results.
But I wasn’t thrilled with it overall. I shot after sunset and while there wasn’t a strong wind, there was enough to keep the sunflower moving a bit. I liked the angle and the idea of the one sunflower in this field, there are about a million 30 feet behind where this was taken. Anyway, I went back out tonight and tried to get the shot I wanted, and thought I had done just so. Wrong. There was a ton to like about the shot, but the sky was completely blown out, the sun just a huge white splotch. But, there were those flares shooting out across the flower. So I cropped the hell out this, cutting out the sky and sun completely, leaving just the flares coming from the top. I converted to black and white because the light was still too strong and screwing with the color in some areas. I don’t think the end result is anywhere near what the picture should have been, but it ended up very different and kind of cool.
