Okay, strange title for a lovely sunset at Goldwater Lake in Prescott Arizona USA. The meaning of the title is about getting the most out of your surroundings at a time when all the elements are lining up for you. If you have a great sunset, on a calm day, good clouds, good color, and good framing elements, make a meal out of it!
This shot is the scene you see as you come through a pine forest to the lower shoreline of Goldwater Lake. At this point I’m not too far away from total sunset and everything is starting to light up and get that warm glow. Immediately my eyes start searching to see what I can frame with the reflections and clouds. I set the tripod up and frame the pine covered forest to the right , the tree to the left, with the sunset and lake in the middle. I know right away that this is the far away shot, the shot that has all the elements I’ve scoped out and now it’s time to zero in on the single elements. I move up the shore and frame the tree to get this shot.
Next I move past the tree, further up the shoreline and shoot straight across the lake to the pines and get this shot.
And then further down the shoreline I got this.
All these shots were within about a 20 minute time frame and were rushed to a certain extent. But when I saw what was happening with the color and light mixing with the calm and clouds, I decided to make a meal out of it.
As an aside, before I went to the pine forest(where I didn’t get a single good shot), I was up past were I took the “No Swimming” picture and was shooting across the lake in a different direction to get this.
an appetizer if you will.
