What is it that makes people drop anything important(like driving down a road in heavy traffic) to gawk at a rainbow. My son and I were on our way home from Chino Valley Arizona, after shooting an old dilapidated ranch house and then a bunch of windmills for no reason other than I passed them on the road back to Prescott, when lo and behold, all the brake lights in front of me lit up. Heads above car seats turned, and arms with index fingers extended from their hands pointed out windows. Following these hints with my natural gut instinct for traffic cues, I turned my head in the direction of the frantic pointing and saw the holy grail of traffic collisions, a double rainbow. After getting pissed for about a second, I ended up joining the mass hypnotism of the double rainbow, while laughing at the amateurs pulling to the side of the road and snapping through their windows with their cellphones. Not me, no, I was a “photographer”, I would find the perfect spot to photograph this master piece of color and light. Long story short, I drove for about a half an hour looking for anything to frame with the exhaulted explosion that is ROY G BIV, only to get stuck in the mud by this shed that was down a road that had very specific “road closed” signs, just as the rainbow was finishing it’s show. I snapped a few, remembered I had 4 wheel drive(I haven’t had my jeep very long), and headed back to the road with all those silly gawkers. I mean, what were they thinking, it’s only a rainbow…….right?
