This was taken the same time as my other photo “Reflection Rock”. These photos were taken about 2 months after I got a DSLR and was still figuring out what I was doing(not that that has stopped). I was with my son and we noticed all these photographers gathered at the boat dock on the other side of this rock. There must have been about 10 of them and they were all standing around playing with their equipment and chatting. I couldn’t believe it. It was gorgeous and the lake was dead calm at sunset. I may not have been a photographer too long, but I knew these were the conditions you go nuts for. My son and I went up in the rocks and crawled out to a rock jetty as far as we could go so I could get as much of this rock in the shot as I could. I didn’t own a tripod at the time, so I set the camera on top of the jetty and started shooting and lining up shots while crawling to get my eye near the viewfinder. I shot a ton of angles because I couldn’t believe how cool it looked. We packed up and headed back to our car, we passed all the photographers with really expensive equipment that I was drooling over, they were all still standing around, not one was taking pictures. On the drive back home my son goes, " ooh, look dada, look at the moon." The moon was huge and glorious coming up from behind the rock and lake I had just shot. Suddenly it all came together, that’s what they were there for, the moon. I didn’t even know it was a full moon that night, I didn’t think that way then. I learned a lesson that night, but I’ve got to be honest here, I think those guys were crazy for ignoring this view(and about a million others that night). I just can’t imagine not shooting this while waiting for the moon.
