Mom Son by BobHenry

11″×14″ pen&ink portraying the Apostle, John, and Mary the mother of Jesus at the foot of the cross. In his final hours on the cross, Jesus said to John, “Behold thy Mother” and to Mary he said , “Mother, behold thy son” . This pen&ink version is based on an earlier sketch I did in marker, and I have also done several acrylic versions (not shown here).

There is a flaw in this drawing which I discovered from a critique by a fellow artist: the tears on the left side of Mary’s face are running uphill and should be running from the corner of the eye down the side of her nose. I corrected this in a later acrylic version.

Thank you, George. Pen&ink is my best medium. I should have done the color one in oil; acrylic is very difficult to blend skin tones—especially in a dark atsmosphere.
