Amiens Cathedral, Somme, France by

A six vertical frame HDR panorama of this wonderful Cathedral exterior. It is incredibly ornate and it left me in awe of the wonderful architecture and craftsmanship of over 850 years ago!

it is a UNESCO Heritage Listed building.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Amiens (French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame d’Amiens), or simply Amiens Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral and seat of the Bishop of Amiens (currently Jean-Luc Bouilleret). It is situated on a slight ridge overlooking the River Somme in the administrative capital of the Picardy region of France, some 120 km north of Paris.
The cathedral is the tallest complete cathedral in France, its stone-vaulted nave reaching a height of 42.30 m (surpassed only by the incomplete Beauvais Cathedral). It also has the greatest interior volume of any French cathedral, estimated at 200,000 m³. The cathedral was built between 1220 and c.1270 and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.1 Although it has lost most of its original stained glass, Amiens Cathedral is renowned for the quality and quantity of early 13th century Gothic sculpture in the main west facade and the south transept portal, and a large quantity of polychrome sculpture from later periods inside the building.

For a more detailed description see Here

Capturing this image was a challenge – incredibly strong sunlight behind the towers and waiting for the large groups of visitors to enter the Cathedral – I waited perhaps half an hour to capture without any people.

I can’t imagine the steps taken to work on this Bob (no wonder why you’re so long between uploads, I keep thinking “I hope Bob’s all right, he’s been a bit quiet” only to then see what you’ve been doing with your spare time). Gorgeous detail and superbly processed as usual and the clouds just drag themselves around it beautifully.and the holyistic light beaming from behind is just divine.

  • Yep I am still around Stuart. Been busy lately ( well for a retired person anyway!) have a number of shots to put up but I don’t like to ‘flood’ RB so will take my time uploading. Great to hear from you, hope you are well. Going to the Margate ‘Big Event’ this weekend?
