Rocky Mountain Sunset Series - Pink & Blue Mountains Panorama by

BEST VIEWED LARGE

Colorado has been hit with some of the smoke from the Arizona wildfires going on recently (June, 2011).

The night before this shot (June 5th, 2011), the sun was literally like a ball of fire. You could look directly at it with no eye protection; that’s how hazy it was.

I was inspired to shoot this scene because of the previous night’s sunset and the wildfires.
I knew I had to get out to my spot the following night, just incase. Needless to say, the sun wasn’t AS spectacular, but it still produced some magnificent images.

This shot was taken in Broomfield, CO, USA.

This is a wide angle panorama. I took 4 sets of 3 bracketed exposures and tone-mapped/detail enhanced each one of the four in Photomatix 4.0.
I then saved each file as a 16-Bit TIFF. I opened and merged in Photoshop to create one panorama. Cropped and slightly adjusted before saved as a high quality JPEG image.

It was the same here. We could look directly at the sun because there was so much smoke in the air. We could even smell the fires. This is a wonderful panoramic view, Jonathan.

  • Thanks Lori! It’s amazing how large that fire has gotten. It’s sad, and it’s amazing that smoke has reached us without first dissipating .

As always, thank you for the kind words and favorite!

Pretty tricky processing, and well done !! A terrific result.
We had a lot of fires in April…and now it is so damned wet you would be lucky to light a match !! ( North West Scotland )

  • Thanks! It was a lot of work, but it was fun to do. It’s fun to see separate images come together to recreate what our eyes see that our lenses can’t capture.

Wow!! Well the rain is good! Brings beautiful green grass/trees. But then you have the chance for flooding… Can never win against mother nature!

Many thanks for the comment and favorite!

Rain ain’t so good when it lasts for months……….and constantly grey skies, well below average temperatures…as in 50F MAX !!….send over some of your sun , pretty please!!!

  • I guess you do have a point… It might as well be raining frogs if it’s that wet!!
