I FINALLY got out and shot something last night!
I had a feeling that the sunset was going to be a good one, and I had scoped out a spot that I really liked.
I headed over about 30 minutes before sunset and sat up, and waited, and waited. It seemed as if my luck was going to run out and the sunset would not be that great after all.
But alas, my patience was rewarded and I came away with this shot (well, 5) as well as some others.

Yes, this is an HDR image.
It is 5 photos; -2, -1, 0, 1, 2.
I merged the photos in Photomatix Pro 4 and then tonemapped. I saved it as a 16Bit-Tiff file (250mb around) and then opened in photoshop to add a little more contrast/saturation and resized the image a little bit.

looking good Jonathan , dont you love a good sunset its such a buzz
Thanks so much Philip! Means a lot coming from the master!
And yes, it is a buzz! I sat in my truck for a while, contemplating, because it looked like it was going to fail and have no color. But I got out anyways and went and set up.
You just never can tell, and this paid off for me!

This is perfection, Jonathan. I love the reflections in the water. The sun sets behind the mountains here. I would have to go 45 miles either north or south to get a decent sunset. Wonderful work!
Thanks Lori, I appreciate the comment! And favorite as well!
Luckily for me, this awesome spot is only about an 8 minute drive from my house.
I guess if you had A LOT of faith that the sunset would be good, the 30-45 minute drive would be worth it.

I do go down to a nature center in the summer sometimes. One of these days I will have to stay until the sun sets. I hate to head home after dark. I don’t have a lot of faith in people. LOL
I understand. I guess one day you’ll just have to take the plunge and get over that fear. The things we’ll do for a decent shot… Lol.
You could always bring a friend or significant other with you, that way you should feel a little safer.
