363 - SHARK DESIGN - DAVE EDWARDS - COLOURED PENCILS - 2012 by

This is based upon a photo I took of a shark in Barcelona Aquarium.

I used coloured pencils and fineliners.

I love when an artist has a style unique to themselves, i would recognize ur work anywhere…the style u developed is what defines you ! fantastic!

  • Coming from an exquisitely orginal artist like yourself that is one valuable compliment for me – many thanks Helene.

oh is this ever amazing and stunning my friend.. wow!!!!!! he looks very prehistoric this guy does.. love it♥

  • Thanks very much. He was quite smooth when I photographed him (or her) but I made him ever so slightly more rugged – not too much though. I changed his colours too so that’s probably what gives him a prehistoric look.

That is very cool Dave! As usual you style with patterns and colours is very neat, but all the while I like the way you lines and shading give some form to the shark as its tail appears to come out from the picture.

  • Thanks very much Mui-Ling. I’m making up for lost time and have nine drawings on the go at once. Keeps my old mind active :-)

Love it Dave – lots of very satisfying movement and your creation of such a dynamic three dimensional space is way intriguing!!

PS glad you weren’t in swimming with them!!

  • Thanks Elwyn. This is another example of doing a rough sketch from a photo and then discarding the photo and letting my imagination take over.

Great colors and patterns, love the primitive shark, truly a strange beast. Well done.

  • Thanks Cindy – I use photos (my own) for inspiration and as you can see from this blurred photo of a shark in Barcelona Aquarium, no one can accuse me of doing a direct copy :-) I do a very quick (two or three minutes) sketch and then discard the photo and let my imagination take over (as I said to Elwyn in the above comment).
