356 DUNSTANBURGH COLOUR STORM - DAVE EDWARDS - COLOURED PENCILS - 2012 by

FEATURED BY AVANT GARDE GROUP – 23rd July 2012

My last drawing (Smug Mitch) wasn’t too big a hit so I thought I’d return to using lots of colour for this one. The castle in the centre is Dunstanburgh Castle in Northumberland.

I used coloured pencils.

I am a retired man who enjoys expressing himself in pencils and paints. I have had two solo exhibitions in my home town and I love Redbubble. I get as much pleasure from viewing the works of other artists as from creating my own.

    WOW !!! it’s a kaliedascope of colour !!!

  • Thanks George. I was at Beadnell this week, looking across the bay to Dunstanburgh, so I took a photo. With our recent storm in mind, coupled with my love of colour, I decided to depict a colour storm :-)

Gorgeous work Dave. I love the designes and colors.

  • Thank you Bunny; I guess it shows that I grew up in the fifties and sixties :-)

It sure is a colour storm Dave! Lovely work. George’s ‘kaleidascope’ description is very apt. Lovely work.

  • Thanks Lynda (and George). As well as calling my artwork Whimsical maybe I should call it Kaleidoscopic Art as well.

I certainly do love all the swirling colours; and that is one big rainbow in the sky! This is great Dave, never seen anything like it! You’ve done a great job managing to mix contrasting colours in all the subjects in a manner that they can still be very distinct from each other and recognizable to what they are.

  • Thanks Mui-Ling. Technically it’s not a rainbow though, or the colours would be r.o.y.g.b.i.v. :-) (I had to mention that or people might think I intended it to be a rainbow. It is simply a design.) I did a piece of writing all about the colours of the rainbow, if anyone is interested in viewing it.

Well of course, I know it was a design – but I just liked the colours :)

  • Yeah, I know, but someone somewhere might have commented that the colours were in the wrong order when you used the word “rainbow”, as people can be very pedantic where art is concerned, so I nipped that in the bud first :-) Actually, you’ve given me an idea for a rainbow picture, using all the colours of the rainbow. Have a nice day!

I like this one very much. You really depicted the wildness of energies when a landscape is hit by storm. But, when I walk through a storm, it also has a deep impact on my mind. As if those wild, strong energies run throught my mind and stir up a whirlpool of emotions; you expressed that mental dimension of a storm very well too.

  • Thanks ever so Martin.
