Snakes in a Human Tree
Be careful as you pass at night;
lest branches grope like fingers
to grab the unsuspecting soul
who for a moment lingers.
Fear well the snakes that writhe and slide
along the slimy bark,
the wooden faces that do stare;
Their voices you may hark.
The moon is bright, the sky is dim,
The leaves beneath your heels
do crackle as you try to creep
from what the night reveals.
Happy dreams …..

Another old but slightly improved ink drawing from 1983. The title is based on the fact that there are two faces in the bark of the tree.
