It is more accurate to say that this is inspired by Acton Hall Gates in Wrexham (North Wales), rather than to describe it as an accurate rendition of the scene.

I have stylised it to the extent of showing Dinas Bran castle in the background, which can’t be seen from Wrexham, unless maybe one has a helicopter :)

I used ink for this.

This is so cool!!! i love how switch from one form of art to another…. this is wonderful… i love the curved lines… the herringbone sky, the fluffy clouds… and it’s amazing that you can draw clouds with pen and ink and they look fluffy!! this is fantastic!

  • Wow – thanks. If I could afford a Public Relations person I’d choose you :)

I am currently working on a picture of the Cheshire Cat from Alice.

I love the different styles throughout this piece. The gates have real character, as do the roads. The castle seems innocuous, but I like the fact that you can’t really see it from the gates. You’ve made it prominent, and important, though it looks humble.

  • Many thanks. That Castle – there are just a few walls remaining of it. It stands on top of a small mountain near Llangollen and Dinas Bran means Crow Castle.

Good job Dave. I like this piece because of the action that it shows and the details.

  • Thanks Chris. I enjoyed doing it, which is a good thing, because if I get bored, that’s when I risk hurrying and spoiling the drawing.

Very unique style that you are developing here, Dave! You have my admiration sir – doing something like this would give me a massive headache!

  • Thank you Martin. You have a very unique style yourself.

I love the tonal contrast and pattern on this it;s almost Escher-like in quality….though obviously not as complex. It is also like woodblock work. Great stuff!

  • Thanks :) No-one was as complex as Escher – he was in a class of his own.
