106 - WOODHORN COLLIERY MEMORIAL - DAVE EDWARDS -WATERCOLOUR - JUNE 2003by BLYTHART
THIS IS NOT A NEW PAINTING
FEATURED BY ART AND INK SO FREE GROUP – 16th May 2011
I have ancestors on both my parents’ sides of the family who were coal miners, so I thought it appropriate that I should do a painting of a memorial to coal miners. This is eight years old and was done in watercolours.
What a fabulous painting, my dear friend!! love the believable wood look of the statue! Is this an actual statue? and if so, how old is it? you did a fantastic job on this one, my friend… EXCELLENT!!
Thanks Barb. I am not sure what the statue is made of. It is either stone or bronze … it is weather-worn, so could be anything. I just Googled this photo:
I did my painting from a photo I took myself eight years ago if I recall correctly..
I like that he looks likea little man cos you would have to be in the mines and his colour like he has come out at sunset seen how lucky he was cos the canary is well dark colours so I will choose to think it is dawn he is inspecting his lantern to ensure it is clean for his bird you would never be clean in that job He also has great tone in his arms I like this Blessings to you

Outstanding work Dave, I thought at first it was a photo with an aging treatment.
Thanks … the aging treatment only affects me :)
