While I am busy with another painting I thought I’d upload an old drawing I did back in 1983. It is based on a photo of one of my favourite singers – Joan Armatrading.
I used ink and compasses, so this is a very mechanical sort of drawing :)

Imaginative as always Dave, good work …
Thanks Tom – makes me feel old to think this was drawn the year our daughter was born.
Yup she moved is you stare :) awsome work
great drawing, must have been very time consuming especially in the center area! you did a wonderful job!!! barb
Yes … I went cross-eyed :)
Excellent containment of all the details in such confined spaces.
Nice pic Dave :0) um……who is Joan Armatrading and what is your favorite song…..is she famous or local talent?
Joan was born in the West Indies and brought up in Britain. Since 1972, she has released 19 albums. In Australia she was given the keys to Sydney and our Queen gave her the MBE. Her 2007 album Into the Blues, debuted at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Blues Chart, making Armatrading the first UK female artist, and the first artist born in St Kitts, to earn that distinction. Admittedly she hasn’t made it so big in America as she has elsewhere in the world. I have about seven of her albums myself, including her first one. Go on YouTube and give her a listen – she’s brilliant!!!
Here she is:
this is so “trippy” luv this!
Thanks. If you’ve not heard Joan Armatrading sing I suggest a visit to YouTube – she is mega cool … and she’s no youngster either – only six months younger than I am.
Love this kind of illusion!
Very cool Dave. This is wonderful.
Thanks Bunny …. I was only 33 when I did this – time flies :)
You can see right into her soul Dave! You must have had great eyesight and steady hands for this one. Well done!
Thanks. I knew someone would mention steady hands. I did say in the description that I used a compass :) No way could I draw circles that well without one.
Very cool, Dave. Love the way you used the pattern.
