When commenting on one of my floral images once, Andrea Verstegen commented:“And it’s not a romantic, sugary sweet floral version either, which is why I like it.”
I liked that comment and decided to do a macho flower, where the petals were held together by screws and rivets, etc.
Catherine Walker will be pleased to know that this is 100% imaginative. I used to do imaginative work many moons ago and then stopped. After chatting with my Redbubble friend Catherine and seeing her lovely imaginative work I decided to start doing the occasional imaginative image … it’s fun to do and even more fun when I’m not sure how it’s going to end up.
I used Staedtler fineliners for this and coloured pencils of course.
It has four levels, which is my way of trying to depict depth. The blue level shows traces of my love of Celtic art, as shown in this old drawing of mine from 1983:

floral, color, pen, petals, pens, fineliner, blythart, staedtler, coloured pencils, dave edwards, macho flower

Cool! Makes me think of a warrior flower, all dressed and ready for battle :)
Thanks – I was thinking of a battle shield as I drew this.

Beautiful work !
mask you line at best, yes this would be on a wooden foundation of a battle dressed warrior slinging his killing insturments, distroying all in his path.well done master drawer
Yeah – no namby pamby pretty pansy flowers for you and I Walt :) We like rough tough man flowers that fight back when you try to pick them.
Man Flower was actually my wife’s suggestion for a title, but I preferred Macho.

Great imagination as always Dave …
Love it Dave, very clever……and tough. Cheers Mel
well done dave..this looks very interesting and very good..kind of a combo of architecture and free spirit..!
You’ve hit the nail on the head there Cath. I surprised myself by not using a single reference photo for this. I’m now working on a portrait of Madvlad though, for which I am using lots of photo reference – plus a wee drop of imagination :)

Very “macho” dave, this is great! I love the juxtaposition of colour too, something I think you do very well.
Maybe I should do a picture of man-eating daffodils next :)
