A few years ago I had a craze for collage. The hexagons that make up this design are cut with a razorblade from Sunday newspaper colour supplements donated to me by the late Stan Bullen from our church. I would collect cuttings from magazines, of texture, colour, etc., storing them in polypockets. I still have two ring-binders full of them. Maybe I should do some more. I didn’t have a guillotine or a cutting surface when I did these, so doing them now may even be easier.

Great work Dave. You should get the Sunday paper to feature this piece as it was inspired by their supplement. It would be great if they would. :)

WOW Dave- thats an amazing effect x

  • I started collecting cuttings from magazines, of texture, colour, etc. I would keep them in polypockets and I still have two bulging ring-binders full of them. Maybe I should do some more. I didn’t have a guillotine or a cutting surface when id id these, so doing them now may even be easier.

    Wow, it looks awesome!

  • Thanks Matthew. It’s been festering in a display book since you were a little boy (almost ten years ago) :) I think I will upload more and then even add to my collection. How are your studies progressing? Do you plan to do any more artwork when time permits, because you are good at it.

Now you will have to start adding little notes : “no digital effects” or whatever!

  • Like the rock band Queen used to say, “no synthesisers were used in this recording” :)

  • Now I think of it, one person at least said they reminded them of digital art, so I will do as you suggested on at least one picture.

These collages are just never said you did collages..I love what you’ve done..they’re all great!!

  • I didn’t think they counted as real art. Paolozzi exhibited pictures he’d made from cut up magazines, so I thought why shouldn’t I upload them. Can’t believe it took me over ten years to show them to anyone.
