168 - BLYTH LIBRARY - 2nd VERSION - DAVE EDWARDS - INK - 1990 by

FEATURED BY ARTISTIC, CREATIVE & VERY TALENTED GROUP – 3rd May 2010

I have spent many a happy hour in this building.

Here below is the first version of this drawing that I did in 1989. I later showed it to a professional artist, who commented that it was a good drawing, but possibly spoiled by my inclusion of the bus shelter and the lamp posts, which were obscuring the view somewhat. I patiently sat down and, over about ten or twelve hours (in two hour sessions) I repeated the drawing … minus the obscuring parts. That was when i learned the valuable lesson that artists don’t have to include EVERYTHING :)

I used Rotring Isograph pens by the way.

I am a retired man who enjoys expressing himself in pencils and paints. I have had two solo exhibitions in my home town and I love Redbubble. I get as much pleasure from viewing the works of other artists as from creating my own.

Blyth buildings seems to have a thing about coronets – there’s another. I see this library is swathed in bandages at the moment (scaffolding and plastic sheets) while being renovated. They should work from your drawing Dave, to make sure they get it perfect.

  • Thanks Brian … the library is swathed in bandages because it suffered a bump of knowledge :)

these always remind me of woodcuts from??1860? or so—

  • Pretty close – I based my pen and ink technique on 19th century engravings.

wow…. i’m surprised you did it in 12 hours… well 24 if you count doing it twice, to get it perfect, which you did! amazing work.. but what you do now seems like a lot more fun!! hahaha barb

  • I understand what you are saying, but I often wonder if my fun is an excuse for avoiding hard work :)
