157 – WITH MY CROSSBOW (WATERCOLOUR & COLOURED PENCILS) – by BLYTHART
Here’s a two years old painting of mine. For those not familiar with the poem in question, this illustrates Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem, The Ancient Mariner".
The verse illustrated is this one:
*`God save thee, ancient Mariner ! From the fiends, that plague thee thus !— Why look’st thou so ?’—With my cross-bow I shot the ALBATROSS.
(S.T. COLERIDGE – 1798)*
Anyone interested in reading the entire poem may find it here
Interesting work, Dave. Has some Celtic Knot qualities. I prefer paintings to poetry, any time Iron Maiden did a great musical version of this.

exellent, can i ask how an idea comes into your mind for an image?
The bird was from a photograph and the rest from inside my little old head (I asay “old” ‘cos I am two years short of sixty and I’m becoming aware that most people on Redbubble see me as elderly). I love patterns and I try to incorporate a representational item into them when I can. The closest I have ever got to truly representational pictures is my pen and ink work I suppose, but I am greatly in awe of the work you, Brian and Neil do, that’s for sure.
What a smart young fella you are Dave, and in the prime of your life. Great to see you making the most of it and being so creative with your talents. As you know, I have a passion – one of the few – for that third dimension and you achieve this in this painting with those shadows so well. You must have spent a lot of time painting so many seperate areas – but wasn’t it worth it!

You are a great addition to Redbubble James.

Great work Dave, I’m not good in poet…. xooxox
I LOVE it.
speaking as another ‘elderly’ artist, i think this is great and accompanies a wonderful poem.
Real feeling, Dave…with your inimitable lovely complexity.
p.s. sixty is the new 30…you make me giggle
If sixty is the new thirty, then at 58 I guess that makes me 29 :)
