197 - STEAM TRAIN AT BLYTH (INK) 1994
I can actually remember these trains. Oh the thrill of being enveloped in white steam as we waited for the train doors to open and our holiday to begin :-)

Well done Dave!!! I love trains.

Thanks Terry. This took me about twelve hours to do. I used to have a very fine Isograph pen for the skies, but as I grow old and decrepit (well, in the eyes of twenty-year olds I am), my eyesight is failing and I find it hard to focus on such fine lines as 0.25mm. Here is a link if you’d like to see the sort of equipment available. I just noticed with a shock that the price of nib units has tripled since I used to use them :-(

Dave—this is amazing art!

I am amazed it only took you twelve hours to do.
I don’t think I could complete anything like that in less than 40 hours myself.

Oh my you are good – man made objects are the hardest things to draw accurately – no room for artist’s license – you can take liberties with organic subjects and get away with it. I vividly remember in art school day after day of drawing a train at the Clapham Transport Museum – torture! When we went drawing in the greenhouses at Nonsuch Park in Epsom I was in my element. Your drawings must be incredible in person – you lose so much detail scanning at a resolution suitable for the web.
BLYTHART
Yes Carol, loads of detail are missed out on the scan as I keep my images small to avoid people printing them out. I did this and some of the others to sell as prints locally and believe me, I HAD to make sure they were as accurate as possible. I once drew a church and an old lady pointed out that I’d missed out a hole in the churchyard wall where she used to peep through as a toddler. Fortunately I hadn’t had the picture printed so I added the hole and everyone was happy.
