I think it works really well Dave…and not to mention, it looks fantastic!
BLYTHART, 12 months ago
Thanks Terry & Penny. I did this eight years ago and I can see loads of faults in it, but who cares :-) I mentioned to Penny that producing a painting must be like giving birth. To continue the analogy, however bad our paintings may be we still love them. Having said that, I have torn a few up in disgust, but I try not to make a habit of it.

Hi Dave, brilliant concept…love it! You might be seeing faults but I’m just looking at the overall picture and see it as amazing;)
davoid, 12 months ago
Good concept and well executed.
I like the reflections.
BLYTHART, 12 months ago
I am bowled over by your comments … you are all very kind. if the people in my home town are as kind as you, my first little solo exhibition next year should go well. So many people comment on artwork with “very nice, but …”and then a lengthy critique follows. You guys are really nice.

I love this idea, so wish I’d thought of it! :) Love the way your work makes me use my brains (what’s left of them at any rate).
Jacqueline Gwynne, 11 months ago
This is very clever! Have you considered book illustration, even for magazines?
Thanks for your support. I added you to my watchlist, I just worked out how to do it!
BLYTHART, 11 months ago
Thanks Jackie. My wife has been suggesting for years i do illustrating. As my pictures are all small (A4) you may have a point. I once had three or four of my pen and inks in magazines locally and I got a thrill from it. My original interest in art was inspired by the illustrations of Aubrey Beardsley, whose original drawings I once had the privilege of holding in my hands at the V & A, London.

Like the querkyness of this…reminds me of the phrase “talking to a brick wall” and the kitchen wall that Shirley Valentine use to talk to in the film.

Well..YES..I remember I already commented this work…and I found it again once more..I think its superb concept to some situations at life, at times…
If only the bricks could talk… He’ll ask her : ...” So how old are you?....”
And she’ll answer : ” what hour do you go to sleep : – ) ... ???...Or when do you get up ?...
just kidding here : – ))

BLYTHART in reply to Richard Shepherd’s comment, 5 months ago
I did this eleven years ago, Richard, and didn’t think it was very good, so I hesitated before uploading it onto Redbubble, but surprisingly it has had more attention than most of my recent work. As a result of the feedback I am now revamping a few of my older paintings and drawings.
Maureen Bloesch, 5 months ago
this brought a smile to my face…thank you, great work!
colin, 5 months ago
Interesting and well-composed concept, Dave.
The minimal hint of background buildings, are well defined.
And the middle-distance bricks, to underline your brick concept, are a fine touch.

Congrats on the 1000 viewings that really is very good you know. On the sales thing.. I think it would be a good idea to have a think about your key words for this.. and try a few test searchs.. This work could easily be an illustration for a book on “well known sayings”. So it may be worth doing some research of this type of book for keywords. You have to consider that someone might be looking for a particular image for a particular work.. if they want “brick” “sayings” and “drawing” you want your image to pop up in searchs. Hope thats usefull.
Andy Mercer, 2 months ago
Also I would get plenty of north east references into your key words generally.. “tyne” “northumbria” even slang words etc etc you have an audience up there already and you want and their friends and other folks who recognise your locations to be able to easily find you.
BLYTHART in reply to Andy Mercer’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks for your advice Andy; I will add some words to my tag list.

Very interesting and so well done!
What immediately sprang to mind is the old stereotypes of neighbors gabbing over back fences, ladies leaning out apartment windows day dreaming, and childhood warnings of such things as “If you keep doing hat with your face, it’s going to stick that way.”
This is cute, on top of being very high quality work.
